SHORT STORY COMPETITION
The competition is open to all. Each story must be original and unpublished. It can be about any subject and in any genre but it must be set in Wales.
Entries can be in either Welsh or English and should contain between a minimum of 1,000 and a maximum of 7,500 words. Each manuscript should be typed using a clearly readable font of not less than size 12.
The manuscript should display only the “nom de plume” of the writer.
There will be a first prize of £200 for the winner in each language and a collection of of books as second prize, donated by sponsors Parthian Press and Gwasg Gomer .
An entry fee of £5 per entry is required: £2 for students and unwaged. Schools / writing groups should co-ordinate their entries and pay by cheque. Cheques should be made payable to ARCS (Allen Raine Celebration Society).
Each entry should be accompanied by a cheque or postal order and a signed entry form. The writer’s name, story title and contact information should be placed inside a sealed envelope with the “nom de plume” and story title written on the outside.
Copyright for each story will remain with the author but the Society reserves the right to publish any story or part of any story in order to promote the Society and the Competition.
Entries should be marked “ARCS Short Story Competition” and addressed to: David Heal, Competition Administrator, College, Tanglwst, Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire SA38 9NJ to arrive by Friday 12th. August 2011 at the latest.
Neither the judges nor the organisers will enter into any communication regarding the competition.
The winning entries will be announced at the PENfro Book Festival, Rhosygilwen on Sunday, 18th. September 2011, when winning writers will be invited to collect their prizes.
